From Soil to Soul: A Welcome Note

The beautiful land of China is the home for the survival and development of China. It has cultivated the splendid Chinese civilization for over 5000 years and created the noble pursuit for the harmony between nature and mankind. In this wonder land, different types of soil, plateaus, mountains, hills, plains, and basins, bring beautiful sceneries that beyond our imagination, on the top of mountains, in the deep forests, on the vast grasslands, and in the quiet wetlands.  

We will provide a variety of field trips for soil scientists to explore the diverse soils in China, such as the red soil in South China, paddy soil in East China, black soil in Northeast China, as well as the desert and loess soil in Northwest China. We warmly welcome worldwide scientists in soil science to Nanjing, China.

In the event that you cannot attend for personal reasons, you are permitted to transfer your reservation to another individual. However, no refunds will be provided in these circumstances.

    Danxia Landform and Karst Landform in South China Excursion

    Date: June 13-16, 2026

    Fee: $450 per person/¥3,240 per person

    Description: 

    This 4-day guided excursion explores Guangdong's iconic geological landscapes, including mirror-like Yanyang Lake, primeval Dinghu Mountain, the "Fairyland" Seven Star Crags, and the dramatic 400 m-deep Ruyuan Grand Canyon before concluding at UNESCO-listed Danxia Mountain.

    Jiangnan Tea & Rice Soil Scientific Expedition

    Date: June 13-16, 2026

    Fee: $840 per person/¥6,000 per person

    Description: 

    A 4-day scientific journey examining tea garden and paddy soil profiles in Hangzhou and Jiaxing, while experiencing West Lake's beauty, Lingyin Temple's serenity, ancient water town, and Shanghai's urban charm, blending pedological research with the cultural and geographical richness of the Yangtze River Delta.

    Survey on Soil Environment and Green City Construction in the Capital

    Date: June 13-17, 2026

    Fee: $1,100 per person/¥7,865 per person

    Description: 

    A 5-day scientific journey exploring Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven and Badaling Great Wall, and inspecting green-agri sites in Yanqing & Pinggu, plus modern greenhouse in Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences.

    Soil and Geoscience Expedition in the Loess Plateau & Historical-Cultural Tour

    Date: June 13-17, 2026

    Fee: $600 per person/¥4,200 per person

    Description: 

    A 5-day field tour combines geoscience with historical exploration, such as Datang Everbright City,  Terracotta Army, Yellow River Hukou Waterfall and Ansai Research Station – China's key center for loess soil erosion control.
